The position provides financial and operational decision support for CarVal Investors related to new investments, ongoing investments, and reporting for Latin American ventures. This includes developing close working relationships with the business and external partners to analyze new and existing deals from an operational, accounting, tax, and legal perspective and ongoing deal reporting, compliance, and management.
Principal Accountabilities
5% - Work with the audit department in conducting operational due diligence when new asset managers/investment opportunities are identified.
10% - Structure review. Work with tax, financial reporting, treasury and legal departments on the structuring of investments and any other issue relating to the unique investments. Create structure charts that identify any GAAP, legal or tax issues. Ensure all issues have been addressed prior to deal closing.
10% - Review legal documents. Work internal and external counsel to ensure all partnership/investment documents incorporate proper controls, GAAP, tax and other administrative issues and requirements. Coordinate tax/GAAP resource review of documents for potential tax and GAAP issues and ensure deal performs in accordance with rights and obligations contemplated in the documents.
10% - Provide deal closing, setup, and management support. Collaborate with the Investment Advisors and asset managers to facilitate the closing of the deals. Work with the Operations Analysts to confirm validity of funding statements to ensure funds are moved timely and in accordance with closing instructions and internal procedures.
10% - Perform quarterly reviews of operating company/partnership/investment financial statements and supporting schedules to ensure integrity of internal control processes and reporting by CarVal's asset managers. Monitor compliance with covenants of third-party lenders. Collaborate with internal and external accountants to ensure proper accounting treatment.
10% - Coordinate monthly valuation process. Assist the investment advisors with review of discounted cash flow analysis prepared by asset managers. Analyze and discuss significant changes in the valuation with the Investment Advisors. Coordinate with Operations Analysts to upload into the valuation system. Ensure final signoff and documentation.
15% - Provide direction, coaching and complete performance management process for Senior Operations Analyst or Operations Analyst level position.
10% - Work with the audit department on an on-going basis to provide input into the risk assessment of asset managers and conduct the audits of asset managers. Audit tasks include agenda development, documentation, testing and reporting. Frequency of the audits is dependent on the risk weighting.
15% - Manage and enhance deal level reporting processes and content to better monitor performance and risk. Provide management and Investment Advisors with deal and portfolio level analysis and reports and other non-standard reports to meet information requirements as needed. Provide cash inflow and outflow projections to treasury to assist with cash management.
5% - Ensure CarVal investments adhere to compliance controls, including financial audits, tax returns, and document compliance, at the acquisition vehicle level.
Skills
Required:
Four-year accounting degree
Business Spanish fluency
5+ years business/financial experience
Strong technical accounting skills and working knowledge of GAAP and audit skills
Creative problem solver
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong computer skills
Strong demonstrated self-motivation and high level of initiative
Strong financial background and working knowledge of financial models
Willingness to travel
Preferred:
Knowledge of and/or experience with Mexican tax and legal reporting requirements
Demonstrated initiative in communicating issues and concepts to multiple groups at multiple levels
Experience in financial services business
Public accounting experience
Knowledge and/or experience with conducting audits and due diligence of external companies
