Our client, a large and dynamic Canadian pension plan, is looking for an insightful and driven Manager, Financial Reporting to join their team. As a key member of the Corporate Financial Reporting group, this role is responsible for managing the corporate financial reporting process, developing and maintaining accounting policies and playing a key role in financial reporting projects including the implementation of IRFS. The position reports to the Director, Corporate Financial Reporting and manages two direct reports.
This is an exciting opportunity for a Chartered Accountant with Financial Services experience to expand their expertise in a complex and fast paced environment and add value in a highly mobile organization.
Responsibilities:
Preparation of quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements, annual MD&A, actual and forecast results and financial presentations to the Audit Committee and coordinating with other areas of Financial Services and Investment Entities to ensure the business rationales behind the financial information is understood.
Managing accounting policy and reporting issues, regulatory reporting and Financial Services’ compliance processes.
Leading financial reporting projects including the implementation of IFRS.
Working with other team members to implement changes to financial reporting, including changes to financial systems.
Drafting accounting policy changes.
Managing relationships with external auditors, the external actuaries and the credit rating agencies.
Coordinating the annual credit review process which includes responsibility for detailed review and verification of all information included in the credit rating reports and the related their press release prior to issuance.
Responsible for developing, researching and maintaining accounting and financial reporting policies to address issues (e.g. financial statement disclosure, investment valuation, and investment classification).
Responsible timely regulatory and statutory filings with government bodies such as FSCO, CRA, and Statistics Canada.
Coordinating the quarterly and annual compliance reviews for all Financial Services groups, which are submitted to the Senior Vice President and which are used as a basis for the Finance and Administration branch’s compliance sign-off for annual corporate compliance attestation.
Addressing accounting and financial reporting special projects as required.
Qualifications:
Chartered Accountant (CA) Designation required
Financial Services and Real Estate experience an asset
Strong working knowledge of financial products and financial systems in a financial services organization.
Strong conceptual understanding of general ledger and other financial systems.
Experience with Oracle Financials, knowledge of its financial statement generator would be an asset.
Self-starter able to work independently with minimal supervision.
Able to work effectively across organizational lines and promotes an effective team-based environment with employees and management at all levels across the organization.
Experience in leading a team, ability to provide effective leadership and drive strong performance.
