The Director in Business Development will be responsible for leading the Transaction Processing and International Business Development group. This group is responsible for managing various business development initiatives in the transaction processing space and growing our global business development initiatives.
Transaction Processing Business Development responsibilities include:
Identify potential opportunities/targets in which CME Group can extend its transaction processing capabilities (CME Globex™ order matching, order routing, clearing) via strategic partners, licensing arrangements, strategic investments, JVs, etc.
Proactively identify areas in which CME can and should grow current opportunities or establish novel partnership arrangements; Develop framework for approaching potential targets; Structure and negotiate agreement terms
During the deal process, lead cross-functional teams including representatives from CME corporate finance, technology, products and services areas, clearing and market regulation.
International Business Development responsibilities include:
Identify potential framework and build approach for international business development strategy
Determine potential business opportunities/targets in the region identifying hurdles and obstacles along the way; examine, with the assistance of Products and Services and Research, IT and Clearing House potential ways to approach opportunities/targets given these hurdles
Work across the organization to educate and gain buy-in for international strategy and potential targets.
Work closely with Managing Director, Business Development and BD team to drive progress by proactively pursuing and building relationships with regional stakeholders (i.e. Exchanges, central banks, key market participants) which will enable CME Group to build upon the international strategy
Once targets have been identified, work with business development deal team throughout the deal process; proactively provide a bridge to regional contacts to move deal process forward; take accountability for deal status in each region; structure & negotiate transactions
Gain background and understanding of strategic issues, information and term sheet/legal agreement
Work with others on the deal team to complete transaction and pass to the Relationship Managers
Proactively update internal stakeholders (BD, Products and Services, IT, Clearing House, and Finance) and management team on growth/progress for each region
Requirements
Minimum of 7-10 years business experience preferably in financial services / trading / exchange or broker-dealer environment.
Substantial experience evaluating, structuring, and negotiating strategic transactions, licensing deals, partnerships and investments (including exposure to M&A work) required
Specific international experience or product experience preferred
MBA or similar advanced degree strongly preferred but substantial relevant experience could substitute.
Proven ability to manage cross functional teams while fostering positive relationships
International work experience desired; language skills helpful
Proven positive management experience within fast-paced, global company required
