The Business Evaluation & Investments team ensures Metallurgical Coal’s investments are optimised for value. We do this by ensuring best investment evaluation practices are used, providing expert services to project teams, and, by reviewing investment proposals. To develop valuation capability across the business we run workshops, mentor valuation practitioners and ensure that the key valuation outcomes and concepts are clearly communicated.

BHP Billiton Metallurgical Coal seeks an evaluation professional with resources experience and strong business acumen to lead evaluation activities across its global business. Reporting to the Valuation Practice Leader, you will be expected to deploy your leadership and superior technical abilities to deliver valuation advice to the Metallurgical Coal Leadership team and to the individual Coal businesses.

Your understanding of applied corporate finance and macro economic concepts will ensure that ongoing growth opportunities are optimised to deliver maximum long-term value to shareholders. Specifically, you will ensure evaluation of major capital developments, including M&A proposals, are properly carried out. You will also provide leadership to project teams on how to effectively progress projects through the capital toll-gating system. Your responsibilities will require you to lead multi-disciplinary teams and engage with a wide variety of people across all levels of the organisation.

Further you will manage corporate level processes such as the review of proposed pricing forecasts, and annual valuation process. Excellent networking skills will facilitate your efforts to contribute to Coal’s drive to develop high quality valuation capability across the entire business.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

To be considered, you must demonstrate competence in investment evaluation techniques and valuation modelling, and a sound understanding of the practical application of corporate finance theory to resource industry projects. Your track record of success in the area of business evaluation testifies to your solid experience and expertise in business analysis. You will be intellectually curious and enjoy providing thought leadership to others when dealing with ambiguity and seemingly difficult evaluations. You will be able to highlight the benefits that your operational experience (preferably in the mining industry) brings to this role as well as how your additional business studies (e.g. post-grad finance or business qualifications) complement this practical experience base. A proven capacity to provide leadership beyond direct reporting lines and apply judgement to making mature decisions in diverse environments will make you a great fit.
