SCOPE OF ROLE:

Review of all submissions for credit facilities to be granted by the bank to its customers.

Facility type will cover all normal Wholesale Banking products, e.g. Syndicated and Bilateral Corporate Loans; Money Market Loans and deposits; Foreign Exchange and F/X Options; Trade and Commodity Finance; Commodity Derivatives.

Geographic coverage will focus primarily on UK and Europe although significant numbers of Asian and other overseas counterparties mean that the overall coverage will be global.

Attendance at and participation in the company's Credit Committee meeting and other committees as from time to time deemed necessary.

This is a hands-on role with significant responsibility and the opportunity to make a very strong contribution to a business that is targeted for significant growth within one of the World's largest banks.

The role will ensure the quality of the credit portfolio is maintained within acceptable parameters, as defined by Group and local credit policy and business strategy, and that the reporting of information relating to that portfolio is timely and accurate.

To instil strong credit culture by setting the highest standards and demanding that these are maintained by others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/CHALLENGES:

Approval of Limit Applications falling within own discretion and support of applications which require approval at a higher level.

Approval of breaches of Local Credit Policy and, to the extent permitted by the Group Credit Policy Statement, breaches of Group Credit Policy.

Assist in formulating and obtaining approval of New Products and Local Underwriting Standards which are supportive of the local business strategy.

Ensure regular committee meetings take place as stipulated in the bank's policies and procedures to review matters of concern of a risk nature.  Attend and actively participate in same.

Monitor compliance with credit policy and business strategy on at least a quarterly basis and reviewing any divergence with Business Heads to ensure credit quality targets are achieved.

Carry out due diligence visits to counterparties' offices with or independently of colleagues; meet with senior management and assess them and their company's business, their control processes and risk management practices.

Assist marketing colleagues and senior management in identification and managing up or out of accounts exhibiting signs of deterioration and, where appropriate, assist in managing substandard accounts to maximise recoveries and minimise losses.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Strong knowledge and understanding of Wholesale Banking products including trade finance, commodities and derivatives as well as multi-product structured solutions.

Risk Management background. Should be able to proactively monitor risk, including offering opinion on strategy, the environment and market risk.

Solid experience in a similar business and/or Risk role.

Excellent leadership, communication and presentation skills.

Multi-cultural awareness. Proven success of working effectively with people of different backgrounds.

Willing to travel.
